Are you one of the “Cool Kids” in your industry?
You: “I dunno, Bill. What do you mean by ‘Cool Kids?’”
The “Cool Kids” (CKs) of an industry are those people and businesses that you (and the marketplace) look at and say:
· “Wow! They’ve really got this figured out!”
· “Oh my goodness—they just changed the game…again!”
· “I wish I were sitting at their table!”
· “I wanna work for/with them!”
· “I wanna be them!”
The Cool Kids are the leaders. The Cool Kids are the game changers. The Cool Kids are the risk takers. The Cool Kids are the rule breakers (and “new rule” makers).
The Cool Kids are the innovators.
The Cool Kids are the innovators.
That’s not a typo. I wrote that twice—for a reason. Because that’s where it starts.
It starts with innovation.
The Cool Kids do things differently than everyone else. That’s innovation. And that’s what makes them stand out from the crowd, from the competition.
When you (and the marketplace) look at the Cool Kids, you’re looking at the innovators in the industry.
Look at me and tell me I’m wrong about this. You can’t, can you?
Because you don’t get to sit at the Cool Kids’ table without being an innovator.
